Hurdles to India's development internal; reforms must: PM
New Delhi, July. 28 (PTI): Making a strong pitch for reforms, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said tonight that the only hurdles to India's development were "internal" including those created by "old ways of thinking".
Recalling the reforms initiated in 1991, when he was the Finance Minister, he said prophets of doom had been proved wrong and Indian economy had experienced unprecedented change and growth in the last two decades.
"It is unfortunate that each time we are faced with the opportunity to leap forward, we allow ourselves to be drawn back," he said at a function here at which he presented NDTV-Profit Business leadership awards to 17 individuals and entities including Mukesh Ambani, Nandan Nilekani and Ratan Tata whose award was received by his sister.
Oh yeah? Why the hell did your Government pass the reservation bill then? Definitely taking us forward. Reforms, my ass. The most regressive step by the Govt I've ever heard of. So regressive that even in 1991 it wasn't passed.

How's this for diversity?
Walking along Durant St. in Berkeley, California, I heard the strains of a song that seemed vaguely familiar. Realising that it was a song from Ghilli (the part where Vijay & Trisha are making their way out of Madurai), I retraced my steps to the shop on the pavement where the song was being played.
It turned out that the owner of the shop was a Tibetan guy who happened to have lived in Mysore and spoke Kannada & Tamil. We chatted a bit about life in general and then parted ways.
Like I said before, how's that for diversity?
